Plantation, FL – September 1, 2025 — Nevette Turner delivered a commanding performance this past weekend to win the Girls’ 14U title at the Level 5 2025 USTA City of Plantation tournament, rising status as a top junior tennis player.
Turner, unseeded in the draw, stormed through the field with poise and precision, defeating four strong opponents — including three seeded players — en route to capturing the championship.
Her run began in the Round of 16, where she quickly established her form by dispatching Elina Gorbunova from Charlotte, NC, with a decisive 6-1, 6-0 victory.
In the Quarterfinals, Turner faced a tougher challenge in Addison Schamberg, the tournament’s No. 4 seed from Riverside, Connecticut. However, Turner maintained her aggressive baseline game and took control early in both sets, winning 6-2, 6-2 to move into the final four.
The Semifinals featured a high-stakes matchup against Mercedes Laub, the No. 2 seed from Boca Raton. Once again, Turner played with maturity beyond her years, breaking Laub’s rhythm and taking the match 6-2, 6-2.
In the Final, Turner faced Mia Ingco, the No. 3 seed from Miramar, FL. In a tightly contested battle, Turner kept her composure in key moments, closing out each set with a strong finish to claim a 5-3, 5-3 victory and secure the tournament title.
This championship marks a significant milestone in Nevette Turner’s junior career. Her calm demeanor and strategic play throughout the tournament signals that she is a player to watch in upcoming events.
