Miami Beach, FL — April 2025

Catherine Chan displayed grit, determination, and skill as she stormed through the consolation bracket to win the Consolation Final at the Level 4 Open: Ace Ace Baby, held at the Miami Beach Tennis Center. After a tough opening-round loss, Chan rebounded in spectacular fashion, stringing together six straight victories to capture the title.

Chan’s tournament began with a setback in the Round of 64, falling to Violeta Pisarczyk 6-2, 6-2. Rather than letting the early loss define her weekend, Chan reset and entered the consolation draw with renewed focus and resilience.

In the first round of consolation, she defeated Alex Ivy 6-3, 6-0 with a clean, confident performance. Her momentum carried into the next match, where she came from a set down to overcome Shambhavi Goswami 2-6, 6-4, (10-7) in a gritty comeback win.

Chan continued her run in the Round of 16, outlasting Isla Amos in a tight first set before cruising through the second to win 7-6(3), 6-1. Her quarterfinal match against Alisa Kuteneva was a rollercoaster, with each player taking a set before Chan edged out the decider 7-4 in a match tiebreak (4-1, 1-4, 7-4).

In the semifinals, Chan faced Vihana Thasen and delivered one of her sharpest performances of the tournament, winning in straight sets 4-2, 4-2.

The consolation final against Ilyse Bauer was a tightly contested match, with Chan prevailing in a dramatic first-set tiebreak before closing out the second set to secure the title, 5-4(7-5), 4-1.

Catherine Chan’s performance in Miami Beach was a testament to her mental toughness and competitive spirit. Turning an early loss into a championship-winning campaign, Chan proved she’s a force to be reckoned with on the junior circuit.
